Alberta Canola Field Engagement Session

Alberta Canola Field Engagement

Canola Fields in Alberta | Alberta Photography | Edmonton Engagement

I know all of you beautiful Albertan's have been especially waiting for this blog post. The feedback on these photographs was amazing, and beautiful. I would really like to thank you for even looking at them, and even more if you are here reading this! I really didn't know I was SO capable of falling more in love with the province after a night like this. I'm going to get a little vulnerable for a second...more likely the entity of this blog post. This session really hit close to home in many different ways. Being from Vancouver Island, the first thing folks always ask me is "What the hell brought you to Edmonton?". They say it in such a negative tone, and usually kind of snarl. It's so negative and I really don't like it. I usually roll my eyes in awkwardness because I honestly don't even know what to say. Whats so wrong with that? The only words that can usually escape me is "my family was military, we were posted here about 15 years ago this summer." Then they nod their heads and quietly say "...oh... that makes sense...". Well yeah, were you expecting something different?

I know Vancouver Island and just all of British Columbia is beautiful in general. I lived there for a great portion of my childhood and I visit it every summer if I can. It's still home, even though I have now lived in Edmonton longer than I have on the island. But this year really had me thinking and it was like my heart kind of flipped. Not upside down, but inside out. I found myself unfolding and really starting to love Alberta. Despite the long, cold and deadly winters we all suffer from, I have really fallen for Alberta. We have the Rockies, Drumheller, lakes, beautiful prairies..so much beautiful  incredible variety. As a lot of you know, I'm a sunset chaser (wish I could say sunrise, but I LOVE the to snooze 90% of the time unless I'm heading out of town) and Alberta truly offers beautiful ones. We get longer days, beautiful skies, northern lights, many events around the city and outside, etc. I used to be so negative about Edmonton and I seriously despised this place. But this year, my entire perspective on life has changed and I have really put focus on being authentic and have been able to prioritize my goals. I wanted to put myself first..This year I have put a great focus on my positive energy, goals, healing, and so much more. I can finally not just say, but speak from my heart, that Edmonton is home. This is home. I, am home.

OK, I am done being a sap. Here are my AMAZING, hilarious, adorable and great looking clients Jessica & Tyler! We first met shortly after I returned from Africa and we needless to say, hit it off very quickly! They are getting married next July and I don't think I have ever been so excited for next July. Seriously. I drove out with Jessica & Tyler to their friends farm to capture some moments in their canola field and then to a cabin that his friends dad built and crafted by hand which was SO beautiful! We shared beers and some twisted teas, laughed and joked, and chased the sun. Followed by some blizzards in Beaumont because who doesn't love a good blizzard after a session THIS good?! Well deserved, for all of us in that case!
